Infographic

This infographic represents definitely represents my digital self because it’s all about myself! Therefore, I was able to follow the design principle of being truthful. I was able to create small icons to help the reader look at the information on the infographic which aligns with the principle of being beautiful. I also divided the sections aesthetically by color in order to separate the information through contrast. The data I used was also cleanly represented by using clear labels. By pairing it with the paragraph next to it provides the reader with more information and context.

Class Progress

I’m really enjoying this module so far. I like learning about aesthetics and infographics a lot. It’s something I do for my job currently, so learning how to do it even better is always good to know. Although I get some questions wrong on the lecture videos and have to rewatch them to get a full score, all the lectures are interesting. I’m always learning something new or how to do something even more effectively. Through the audio/video assignment I learned I don’t really enjoy editing or being creative in that way, but if I didn’t do that assignment it’s something I would have never known. Overall, this class is going well I would say!

My Digital Video

This video represents my digital self as it’s a video about how my daily life is like at work! A big part of who I am is what I do at the International Student Center. I am not only furthering my career in social media and event planning, but developing interpersonal and communication skills. I think this project was cool to do because I was able to see what my work life looks like in the third person. In this video, I was able to create establishing, medium, and close up shots to create a video that captures my day!

Progess

I have really enjoyed what I’ve learned in JMS 315. I think because it was so hard for me to get into this major, I’m grateful for everything I learn and excited to learn. I personally enjoyed the digital image assignment because I like to play around with graphic design elements. I am nowhere close to being a graphic designer, but it’s fun to play around and learn about design elements in this class. I particularly enjoyed the lecture about fonts and font families because I love to use a bunch of different fonts when I design posters or social media posts. I am looking forward to next week’s modules on design principles!

Digital Image

This image represents my digital self because of how colorful and cheerful this picture is. I would like to think that I’m a positive role model on digital sites whether it’s social networks like Instagram or professional networks like LinkedIn. Some digital media principles I used were figure-ground and color. The background is a little blurry because of the depth that was used and the flowers represent the vibrant colors of red and pink. This would also be both a graphic and image blended together because the original photo was an image, but the text and other elements make it a graphic as well.

Under Construction

I remember choosing my classes for this semester and felt ecstatic to take JMS 220. I was finally going to be enrolled in a class that was going to give me better insight into what it means to be a better writer. One of the biggest goals I have for this class is to be more comfortable and confident in letting my peers read my work. I often find myself bashing on my own writing or wondering if my work was good enough in comparison to others. Therefore, I want this blog, as well as my own personal journaling, to help me grow as a writer.

Some of my other goals include improving my grammar, spelling and punctuation (GSP) as well as diversifying my sentence structure. I want to be able to edit my own work by easily identifying grammar or punctuation errors. To accomplish this, I will make an effort to actually retain the information I use to study for the GSP test this semester and to continuously practice GSP. Along with improving my GSP, hopefully, this will lead to my improvement of diversifying my sentence structures. I want to be able to keep a reader engaged with my writing by utilizing different sentence structures and more captivating words.

Introduction

My name is Makena Fong and I’m a third-year studying Media Studies. When I’m not doing PR work for my student organization, Alpha Phi Omega, I’m probably watching my favorite tv show How I Met Your Mother. I also enjoy browsing social media trends for fun or making new posts on social media for the dog rescue I volunteer for.

I’m super excited to be in this class as it means I got into my major! I spent a majority of my second year worrying about what I would do if I didn’t get into my major. I’m looking forward to learning more about my major and my future career choices. Currently, I have a job as an events and programs specialist, but I’m not sure what emphasis of work I want to do. My original goal was to do social media marketing, but I’m leaning more towards event planning. Either way, I’m excited to learn new terminology and new skills to better my future.
